Ms.Supinya Klangnarong,
Commissioner of National Broadcast and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC)
She had been working as a media activist and policy advocate for almost 18 years until recently was selected by the Senate to be one of the 11 first independent media & telecommunication commission in Thailand in October 2011. She is the only female and youngest member of NBTC which has a single term of work period for 6 years.
She had been working as Media project coordinator at Thai Volunteer Service (TVS), then deputy Secretary-general, Secretary-general and Vice-chair of Campaign for Popular Media Reform (CPMR), a national NGOs working towards the democratization of communication, also a board member of Thai Netizen Network, an independent network of Internet citizens working to uphold cyber liberty in Thailand. She had been working as a full-time lecturer on media & human rights at Mahidol University in Salaya campus, also part-time lecturers in various universities.
She was a policy consultant for various committees such as legislative committees on National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission Bill, Sub-committee on broadcasting regulation of National Telecommunication Commission (NTC). Committee on licensing criteria for IMT 2.1 (3G & beyond) She was appointed as a board member of Film Archive (Public organization) in 2009.
She was awarded “Communication for Social Change Award” By University of Queensland, Australia in 2006, also selected as an Ashoka Fellow in 2004 and Eisenhower Fellow in 2007, recently “10 Most Influential Woman of the Year 2011” by Praew Magazine, the most well-known woman magazine in Thailand.
Previously, she was fighting against Shin Corporation, former PM’s family telecom and media business over the criminal and civil defamation lawsuits, the cases were acquitted and withdrawn in 2006.
